Factory sorter: British or American?: Unterrichtsidee & interaktive Tafelfolie
Didaktisches Ziel & Zweck
Both are right — that is the point. Pupils meet both variants in films, games and coursebooks, and sorting them makes visible that there is a system behind it, not a mistake.
Phasierung & Ablauf im Unterricht
- Before the first go: collect what the class already knows. Football or soccer usually comes straight away.
- Start the belt. Forty-five seconds, one word at a time, left for British and right for American.
- After the shift, pick up the near misses: gas is petrol, but in Britain gas is what you cook with.
- Next pupil, new order. Say which variant your class writes — both are correct, but a text should pick one.
Classroom English & Redemittel
Hilfreiche Sprachimpulse für eine einsprachige Moderation:
- “Same thing, two words. Which side?”
- “We say lift — so what do they say?”
- “Both are correct English, remember.”
- “Eighteen of twenty. Very good.”
Differenzierung & Varianten
Afterwards write a short text in one variant and swap all the words for the other. Or two belts, British against American.
